Thank you for covering the story about the village of Lincolnshire illegally declaring itself a “right-to-work” village.
As a resident of Lincolnshire, I am appalled that Mayor Liz Brandt, and the village board, with one exception, would take a stand to diminish the power of unions to represent workers. In right-to-work states, the average worker earns about 12 percent less than workers in non-right-to-work states.
It only stands to reason that workers in cities, towns and villages would suffer the same outcome, were individual cities within a state permitted to become right to work zones. Its obvious the goal here has less to do with worker empowerment, and more to do with channeling more wealth to the top, which will do nothing to solve the economic problems we face, unless the end goal is simply to transfer wealth to those who need it least at the expense of the working class.
