Get ready.
Anti-worker, anti-union lawmakers in Columbus are at it again, attempting to deny collective bargaining rights and attacking workers and unions.
Take a look:
Senate Bill 1 (SB 1), sponsored by anti-worker state Sen. Jerry Cirino (remember his name), bans faculty strikes at public universities, and weakens collective bargaining rights for workers on our campuses.
SB 1 silences the voices of more than 10,000 union workers who are educators, public safety and public health workers and others.
Senate Bill 8 (SB 8), sponsored by state Sen. Steve Huffman, bans public workers from negotiating for release time in public contracts.
Huffman’s proposal is a blatant attack on workers’ rights.
It penalizes workers for union activity, stifles free speech of Ohio’s working families, and like Senate Bill 5 years ago, attempts to put the state’s thumb on the scale balancing contract negotiations (collective bargaining) between workers and management.
SB 8 wastes tax dollars and muzzles workers from talking about safety on the job like equipment for firefighters, safety for police officers on patrol, safe classroom conditions for teachers and more.
And state Rep. Levi Dean is expected to introduce a Right to Work is Wrong bill soon in the Ohio House.
In Right to Work is Wrong states, workers earn less and there are more accidents and deaths in the workplace because the boss has all the power and workers have to agree to take risks on the job or be fired on the spot.
