Gov. Mike DeWine this week announced he opposed putting citizens in charge of drawing legislative and congressional districts.
DeWine wants you to vote no this November and has pledged to change the process in the future.
No one watching DeWine, Frank “I cannot tell a truth” LaRose, and Senate President Matt Huffman and other politicians believe for a moment they would fix a rigged system that gives them almost unlimited power.
Huffman infamously once said, “we can kind of do what we want,” and he wasn’t joking.
These are the reasons former Republican Ohio Supreme Court Justice Maureen O’Connor is the strongest advocate for the Citizens Not Politicians amendment on the ballot this year.
O’Connor repeatedly ordered DeWine and Huffman and LaRose to draw fair maps so we could have fair elections, and they defied her order again and again.
After DeWine’s desperate plea, Maureen O’Connor issued this statement.
“The disinformation from the Governor today is insulting to everyone in Ohio, and especially insulting to the half a million Ohioans — Republicans, Democrats and Independents — who put the Citizens Not Politicians Amendment on the November ballot.”
“We’re done listening to self-serving politicians tell us how they want to keep rigging the game. On to November.”
Politicians shouldn’t pick their voters using a scheme called gerrymandering.
Voters should elect their leaders.
On or before November 5, you will have an opportunity to take the pen that draws legislative and congressional lines out of the hands of politicians.
Changing this process unrigs the game that DeWine, LaRose and Huffman rigged for themselves and their cronies.
An extreme legislature tried to deny workers collective bargaining rights by passing Senate Bill 5 and we shut that down.
An extreme legislature and DeWine tried to deny our right to majority rule by raising the threshold to 60 percent to amend our Ohio Constitution and we shut that down.
